Greek Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2014

During the first semester 2014, our country undertakes again the significant responsibility for the operation of the EU Council. Greece is assigned the Presidency for the fifth time as of its accession to the European Union. During its mandate the Greek side is given the opportunity to influence the EU Council policy in a very critical period, within a dramatically ever-changing unstable / fluid environment. Greece holds dynamically and decisively the European lead and set goals and priorities in an attempt to promote EU important legislative issues relating to peace, stability and Democracy.

The Greek Presidency focuses on employment and the fight against unemployment; on grovvth and cohesion, the mobility of people as vvell as on achieving a common approach regarding the challenge of immigration. Moreover, it aims at an integrated maritime policy based on blue growth, tourism and fisheries, marine Iavv, renevvable energy sources and the exploitation of sea zones.
